Full Figured Fashion Week Press & Buyers Reception

Fashion tastemakers and media elite were all in attendance at the Full Figured Fashion Week Press & Buyers Reception on Tuesday afternoon June 18th, an opportunity for individuals to purchase select pieces from designers. When I first arrived I had no idea what to expect. Originally I pictured designers and potential clients sitting around a huge round table with images of fashion pieces discussing quantities and values; an idea I got from watching the fashion documentary The September Issue way too many times. It actually turned out to be something totally different. I quickly realized that it was time to put my networking skills to the test, and personally get to know the designers and what inspired them to go after their dreams.

Walking into the Fitzgerald Ballroom at the Affinia Hotel NYC, I noticed all the designers were stationed around tall bar tables with information about their fashion lines displayed. Most designers had an assistant or a business partner, and stunning models to bring their pieces to life. It was definitely lighthearted and fun as we posed for photos with the models and the designers while laughing over drinks; yet they (models and designers) were still able to remain business minded while attracting buyers and press. When talking to designers such as Serwah Asante (Rue 114) and Lori Ruffin (Sean Anthony Designs), there was definitely a common theme amongst them all- for curvaceous women to love their curves and love the way they looked and felt in their outfit of the day ranging from swimwear to evening wear. Whether one was a newcomer or a seasoned veteran, all the designers loved what they do- make clothing that made women look good and feel beautiful.

Here are some of the featured designers and looks I came across:

EloCin: The brand’s designer mixes sexy and sophistication! Feminine shapes mixed with edgy designs and cuts. Elocin woman are desirable, intelligent, powerful and fashion forward.

ZMJ JEANS: ZMJ Denim caters to the plus sized market. ZMJ is founded by the Jones sisters. Both are graduates of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. This company strives to stay on top of the latest trends, keeping it young and relevant.

TRU DIVA DESIGNS: A plus sized women’s wear collection for the beauty of real curves.  Tru Diva Designs is inspired by its creator Veronica L after not finding clothing that she felt sexy and sophisticated in which appreciated her curves. Tru Diva Designs is the epitome of sophistication, style and confidence.

Sean Anthony Designs: Founder and CEO of Sean Anthony Designs Lori Ruffin began her quest in 2009 with a clothing line coats for the “average sized woman.” Which she thought was roughly a size 10, until her mother enlightened her. With that, she began to design a line that focused on accentuating a fuller figured woman.

Huudaverti: A collaboration by Australian designers, the brand is now based in NYC. Huudaverti first made its appearance at the 2012 Fiji Fashion Week. With design inspiration blossoming from the 1970’s, these designers are ready to bring their overseas fashion to the United States.

Swim Sexy: For over a decade, Swimsuits For All has been one of the nation’s leading retailers of swimsuits on the east coast. For the last eight years Swim Sexy has reached an audience of over half a million, catering to curvaceous women with the sexy design and perfect fit.

Curvy Couture: The owner of this lingerie line has been a seamstress/lingerie designer for 20 years. She wanted to acknowledge full figured women, and how they to want to feel sexy behind closed doors.

Rue 114: After attending Dartmouth and majoring in Pre-Med, these ladies knew their true calling was designing. These two are definitely an eclectic bunch pulling inspiration from everything and everywhere.

Amiiee: Luxurious fashion for the average woman, Amiiee, an exclusive luxury designer brand, provides pieces for plus sized woman both nationally and internationally. Descending from a family of traditionally European designers, Amiiee is now primarily based in NYC.

Skinny Billionairess: Originally spawning as an accessories line, Pamela Wood’s designs give her clients everything from erotic to vintage. She shifts the paradigm from high end fabrics, to evocative cuts all done by hand. Her designs are now featured in fashion magazines.

OnOz: A new comer on the scene. This Paris, France based designer has definitely accomplished a lot within the one year she has launched. Almost all of her designs are inspired by a landmark in France.

Dating Myths That Shouldn’t Be Myths

Lets be real, dating sucks. It can be uncomfortable, questions and laughter dont come easy, and honestly your not ready for it.We all know, it sucks to be alone.

Solution ? Stop feeding into society and get out there and take rejection like a big girl. Dont let those myths stop you from meeting the man of your dreams

In the history of men it has never been heard of a man saying, “This girl is smart, amazing, funny, and beautiful, but there is one thing…I slept with her on the first day”

Ladies dont wait out there for prince charming you might get impatient, go out there and find whats yours.

If you’ve done it….move on with life, get to know the guy. He isn’t pondering the first date.

#2.“Don’t pursue him.”

A man dosent run away if you start off the conversation. I promise in the back of his mind he ISNT thinking “wow how desperate”

#3. “If He’s Single, Either He’s Gay, Crazy, Or He’s Lying.”

Why cant it just be he has not found the right one. c Chances are maybe he is a true gentleman.

#4 .”Men love aggressiveness”

Yes, men do love assertiveness but they do fall deeper for a women with a warm heart. So stop trying to wear the belt!

#5.”nice guys finish last”

Nice guys come out with the women of their dreams and a happily ever after.

Khloe Kardashian was spotted at Ulta Beauty Store in Los Angeles where she promoted the family’s new tanning lotion, Sun Kissed. Khloe was wearing a pair of blue Giuseppe Zanotti the same shoes Nicki Minaj and Rocsi Diaz, former host of BET, are pictured wearing above .

All there ladies styled the shoe differently but who takes the look?

Here at Bronze Magazine we think Rocsi Diaz wins this battle. The blue of the Giuseppes bring out the blue flowers on her dress, completing her look.

Fashion Makes A Cultural Statement at Adiree’s Africa Fashion Week Pop-Up Shop Event

Fashion made a cultural splash as style enthusiasts and onlookers gathered at the Pikolinos flagship store in Chelsea for Adiree’s African Fashion Week Pop-Up Shop Event on Friday June 14th.
Pikolinos, a shoe and bag retail magnate, showcased their impressive boot, sandals, clothing and satchel collection while serving the guests glasses of red and white wine, hors d’oeuvres and cultural music.

But the real reason behind the evening’s festivties was to celebrate Pikolinos Maasai Project, a collaborative effort to debut a line of shoes and bags designed in Kenya by over 1600 women from the Maasai tribe. The Maasai tribe is one of the most threatened groups of people on the planet according to the United Nations.
“The Maasai Project is a great way to help the women in Kenya become more sustainable and independent ,” said Bisila Bokoko, who is the global brand ambassador and strategist for Pikolinos and The Maasai Project.

The Maasai women are the masterminds behind creating the immaculate Spring and Summer Pikolinos collection. The women handcraft the leather used on the shoes and bags with typical Maasai beadwork embroidery, which is then sent to Pikolinos factories in Spain to the finishing chain process, creating an exclusively designed an high-quality product.

“Pikolinos does a lot to give back to the community and the women of the Maasai tribe. All the profits from any of the shoes and handbags from the collection goes directly back to the tribe,” said store manager Lindsey Shweede,  showing how Pikolinos’s involvement in socially responsible projects can help benefit the community.
“Here at Pikolinos we are extremely excited and passionate about the new collection and are incredibly proud of the women’s ability to make such beautiful designs,” exclaimed Bokoko.

Speaking of the new collection, who is the fresh face behind Pikolinos cultural masterpiece?
“Olivia Palermo is such a great and talented person and a style trendsetter and when we discussed the project together she was really into it and really got involved,” said Bokoko. Olivia Palermo, who is currently the Maasai Project Ambassador, starred in the hit MTV series The City back in 2009 and is synonymous all over the world for her ecletic and polished style.

But the pop-up shop event could not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of the luxury communications and branding company, Adiree, who worked closely with Pikolinos to help showcase The Massai Project collection, as well as enforce the re-branding of Africa as a destination for luxury brands.
“Africa is well in life. There are beautiful aspects of Africa as there are beautiful aspects in every part of the world,” said Adiat Disu, founder of Adiree.

“I think collaborating with Pikolinos for example is great because they have a sustainable project and I love the way they present Africa. They present Africa and their partnership with The Maasai people as something very beautiful, not as a charity or poverty case. They showcase our people in their beauty and in their element.”
